The UKSTT Award nominated three finalists on 9 September: In the Innovative Technology category, the three project partners Glanville Environmental Ltd, South West Water and Reinert-Ritz GmbH made it to the final with their project to renew a wastewater pressure pipeline on the British island of Tresco (Isles on Scilly).
The award is presented each year in several categories by the United Kingdom Society Trenchless Technology (UKSTT), a British organisation that promotes trenchless technologies in the supply and disposal sector. The winners will be announced on 2 October at Stoneleigh Park in Kenilworth.
The work on the nominated project, the rehabilitation of a 20-year-old wastewater pressure pipe in Tresco, was very complex due to the „spatial and structural conditions on the small archipelago for all the vehicles and equipment required“. „The surroundings offer little room for major construction work.“ Appropriate technical approaches were required.
Shaftless installation and simple installation using the QuickPig
According to the manufacturer, „Quick-Pig is a pigging station that is very easy to install. It is installed as a moulded part directly in the pipe trench and therefore requires very little space. The pressurised wastewater pipes can be cleaned very easily using the pigging process. A so-called dome is led to just below the top edge of the ground, where the pig can then be easily inserted.“
„The simple installation of the Quick-Pig system is particularly pleasing. This only requires two employees and a small excavator on Tresco“, Hindriks comments on the success of the project.
In future, it will be possible to have planned maintenance work carried out „in less than 15 minutes for each section by two skilled workers using pedestrian access“.

The winners of the award will be announced at a gala evening on 2 October.
