LD converter (BOF) boosts productivity for ArcelorMittal Zenica

In Autumn 2022, Bosnian steel producer ArcelorMittal Zenica started up a new 125-ton LD converter (BOF), supplied by Primetals Technologies, at its plant in Zenica, Bosnia Herzegovina. As part of the project, engineers at Primetals Technologies have optimized the vessel shape, resulting in an increase in converter reaction volume by almost 30 percent.

SMS to supply rebar minimill to YK Steel in Korea

YK Steel, Korea, has commissioned SMS group to supply a new minimill with integrated melting, casting, and rolling and including all electrical and automation systems. Instead of relocating and upgrading an existing plant, originally planned at the end of 2021, YK Steel instead opted for a completely new minimill.

Akita Noshiro, Japan’s first large offshore wind farm project, built on steel from Dillinger

The Akita Noshiro offshore wind farm project, which recently began commercial operation, is the first large-scale offshore project ever built in Japan. Dillinger supplied approximately 26,300 tons of heavy plate for the monopile foundation structures, in thicknesses ranging from 50 to 100 mm.

Primetals Technologies to upgrade wire rod mill for recycled-steel producer in Switzerland

Metals producer AFV Beltrame Stahl Gerlafingen has recently contracted Primetals Technologies to upgrade its wire rod mill in Gerlafingen, a city in the canton of Solothurn, located in the north-western part of Switzerland. The scope of supply includes an Intelligent Pinch Roll and High Speed Laying Head.

Waelzholz purchases low carbon emissions wire rod from ArcelorMittal

As part of their business partnership, ArcelorMittal will supply C.D. Wälzholz GmbH & Co. KG with low carbon emissions wire rod from the Hamburg plant in the future. These steels are produced on the basis of scrap and renewable electricity (100 percent). The low carbon footprint of 504 kg CO2/t of steel is confirmed with an official Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
